Jose Bright

Mr. Bright is an African American expat living in Johannesburg, South Africa since 1995. Prior to 1995, Mr. Bright served in very senior appointed positions in government (both legislative and executive branches) as well as a government think tank and the private sector in Washington, DC.

Currently, Mr Bright is the Director of the Bright Group Management Services, a South African based management consulting firm. His areas of expertise include: strategic management, diversity management, organisational development, personal empowerment and economic transformation via small enterprise development. He has consulted with all levels of government in South Africa, regional organisations like the Southern African Development Community and the Media Institute of Southern Africa as well as continental organisation such as the Pan African Parliament, the African Capacity Building Foundation, the NEPAD and African Lawyers Without Borders. Mr. Bright has also consulted with the international donor community (e.g.,USAID, CIDA, SIDA, GTZ, DFID, DANIDA and World Bank).

Mr. Bright has authored two high school business studies textbooks endorsed by the Wits Business School. He also lectures part-time at Wits University on strategic management, entrepreneurship, principles of management and project management.

Due to his consulting work with national and provincial departments of education, in 2001 Mr. Bright founded Teboho Trust - a highly successful and sought-after educational support platform for orphan, vulnerable and at-risk children and adolescents (OVCs) as well as a small business development / incubation model for the caregivers of the OVCs in Soweto, South Africa. Each year, the organisation produces a 100% pass rate on the national high school exam, many go on to the top universities in South Africa, primary and secondary school learners are earning higher marks and symbols in school, many are elected/appointed into leadership roles in their schools, sports teams, churches and youth groups and they are role models to many in the community due to the Teboho Trust model Mr. Bright developed. The model has also produced no teen pregnancies, no children/teens in the criminal justice system and no children/teens dropping out of school.

Mr. Bright is a mentor for the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation’s Entrepreneurial Programme and was a fellow at the Gordon Institute of Business Science ImagiNation 2009 programme for senior leaders in the private, public and NGO sectors. 

Mr. Bright has a Bachelor of Arts in political science and Spanish literature from Loyola Marymount University as well as a Juris Doctor in Law from Loyola Law School, both in Los Angeles, California. When he resided in the USA, he was licensed to practice law by the State of California Supreme Court and Court of Appeals in Washington, DC.
